RSPB Geltsdale
Overview
Set in the beautiful North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Geltsdale is home to black grouse, birds of prey and breeding wading birds and is ideal for walking. There are four waymarked trails leading from the car park at Howgill. The Stagsike Trail will take 1–2 hours to walk and the other trails a little longer. Stagsike Cottages are approximately a 40-minute walk from the parking area and provide an information point and toilets.
About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
