Sticklebarn and The Langdales (NT)

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Forged by fire and ice, the Langdales are dramatic to say the least. Home to the majestic Langdale Pikes, world-class rock-climbing and stunning mountain tarns, this is a natural playground, with walks and activities to suit all abilities. The ambitious can tackle the major peaks but it’s not all about high-level scrambling. A stroll alongside Elterwater offers the best views of the Pikes, and the circular route around Blea Tarn is easily accessible, with views of both Little and Great Langdale. Sticklebarn pub sits at the heart of all this and with crackling fires, real ales and Lakeland food, there's no better place to unwind after a day of adventure on the fells. It’s the only pub run by the National Trust.
Location
Great Langdale, GRASMERE, LA22 9JU
About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
