Built by Henry VIII, Hurst Castle was the pride of Tudor England's coastal defences. Crouched menacingly on a shingle spit, the castle has a fascinating history, including involvement in the smuggling trade in the 17th and 18th centuries.

- Opening Times: Open Apr-Sep, daily 10.30-5.30; Oct, 10-30-4. Closed Nov-Mar (occasionally open weekends in winter - please ring 01590 642500). Major conservation work to the roof means access to some areas may be temporarily restricted at short notice
