Lancaster Cathedral
Overview
The tall, 240ft Gothic spire of Lancaster’s Catholic cathedral has been a landmark in the city since its construction in the mid-19th century to a design by Edward Paley. Giles Gilbert Scott undertook some remodelling of the interior in 1909, including the addition of black and white marble floor tiles. The cathedral, elevated to this status in 1924, is dedicated to St Peter.

About the area
Lancashire was at the centre of the British cotton industry in the 19th century, which lead to the urbanization of great tracts of the area. The cotton boom came and went, but the industrial profile remains.
