RNLI Henry Blogg Museum

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution's Henry Blogg was an old man when he died, but when you hear about his exploits in plucking imperiled sailors from the treacherous seas you’ll wonder how he managed to cheat death for so long. His bravery is legendary; he launched 387 times and was awarded more medals and commendations than any other lifeboatman in Britain. You can learn more about Blogg at the museum dedicated to him. A lifeboat has been stationed at Cromer since 1804, and this museum at the bottom of The Gangway covers local lifeboat history and the RNLI in general too. The main exhibit is the Watson-class lifeboat HF Bailey, the boat Henry Blogg coxed.

About the area
The North Norfolk Coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and probably the finest of its kind in Europe. Here you’ll find a string of quaint villages and small towns – Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Cley next the Sea are 21st-century favourites, while Sheringham and Cromer are classic examples of a good old-fashioned seaside resort where grand Victorian hotels look out to sea.
