The Forbidden Corner

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
This is a very unusual place, and its reputation grows year by year. Tupgill Park is a four-acre fantasy garden, full of tunnels, follies, and surprises. It started almost by accident in 1989 as a private affair, but went public five years later and now it’s even spawned its own series of interactive tales for kids. A huge pyramid of translucent glass, strange statues of mythical figures, paths and passages that lead nowhere, all very odd.
Features

  • Opening Times
  • Opening Times: Open Mar–Oct, Mon–Sat 12–6, Sun 10–6; Nov–Dec Sun 12–6 (advance booking essential)
Location

About the area
North Yorkshire, with its two National Parks and two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is England’s largest county and one of the most rural. This is prime walking country, from the heather-clad heights of the North York Moors to the limestone country that is so typical of the Yorkshire Dales – a place of contrasts and discoveries, of history and legend.
