Hammerwood Park
Overview
Built in 1792 as a temple to Bacchus in romantic parkland, this was the first work of Benjamin Latrobe who was responsible for the Capitol and the porticos of the White House, Washington D.C. Owned by Led Zeppelin in the 1970s, the present owner found it derelict in 1982. Whilst teas are served beneath a copy of the Elgin Marble frieze, a derelict dining room still shocks the unwary. Guided tours by the family take you through almost the whole house and make a most interesting afternoon.

About the area
Divided from East Sussex back in 1888, West Sussex has a variety of landscapes and coastal scenery, but it is the spacious and open South Downs with which the county is most closely associated. There are plenty of walking routes in the South Downs National Park, cycling routes by the sea or visitors can explore the pretty town of Arundel with its historic castle and buildings.
