Lydiard Park

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Set in country parkland, Lydiard Park belonged to the St John family (the Bolingbrokes) for 500 years up until 1943 when the Swindon Corporation purchased it. Since then the house has been restored and many of the original furnishings returned, together with a family portrait collection dating from Elizabethan to Victorian times. Exceptional plaster work, early wallpaper, a rare painted glass window, and a room devoted to the talented 18th-century artist, Lady Diana Beauclerk, can also be seen. There is a restored 18th-century ornamental fruit and flower walled garden.
