Angus's Garden

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Just a short walk from Barguillean Farm, Angus's Garden was created to commemorate Angus Macdonald, who was killed in Cyprus in 1956. His mother, Betty Macdonald, started the garden the following year, with the aim of creating a place of forgiveness and reconciliation. It’s peaceful air means it is often used as a spot for meditation and contemplation. The garden sits amid a natural woodland setting and is at its best in spring. Covering around 9 acres, it has been planted with many varieties of rhododendrons and azaleas, as well as other flowering shrubs and trees. An informal network of paths, created by family and friends over a number of years, have been developed into three colour-coded walks catering for varying abilities and levels of fitness.
Location
Barguillean, Glen Lonan, TAYNUILT, PA35 1HY
About the area
This is a county that’s all about awe-inspiring landscapes and unique island cultures. Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney put the area on the map when he wrote Mull of Kintyre, recorded in 1977 with the local pipe band backing his group.
