Souter Johnnie's Cottage

Overview
A 'Souter' is a cobbler, and the village cobbler who lived in this 18th-century cottage was the inspiration for Burns' character Souter Johnnie, in his ballad Tam O'Shanter. The cottage is now a Burns museum and life-size stone figures of the poet's characters can be seen in the restored ale-house in the cottage garden.
