A loop from Long Hill to Ettington
From the lay-by at Long Hill, walk down the lane towards Loxley. In about 0.5 miles (800m), go right up the lane, past Hillside View and towards Ettingley Farm. Continue ahead to the right of Ettingley Farm, now a track. Through a field gate continue ahead across a field to a gate in the hedge. Descend across the next field, and at a path junction go ahead through a gate to join the path to the right of the hedge, passing to the right of Whitfield Farm. Through a kissing gate, join the farm drive and follow it down to the A429.
Go right along the right-hand grass verge of the A429 towards Ettington, then in about 600yds (549m) cross the busy road with care and go left through a gate in the hedge. Turn right and follow the path to the left of the hedge to reach on to the old Warwick Road. Follow this traffic-free, disused road up to the A422 in the village, which brings you to a crossroads opposite the Church of Holy Trinity and St Thomas of Canterbury.
Go right along the A422 Banbury to Stratford-upon-Avon road, passing by the tower of St Thomas à Becket. Just before reaching the large roundabout, cross the road and follow the grass verge along the side of the A429 for 50 paces. Cross the A429, then climb the embankment opposite and go over a plank footbridge at the top and onto a farm drive. Go left along the drive, which leads to Grove Farm, taking time to enjoy the fine view to the right.
Walk between the buildings of Grove Farm, then bear right along the lane/track that passes to the left of woodland. Beyond the woodland end, the track bends left. Go through a kissing gate and pass to the left of Boundary Covert. Now the farm track becomes grass underfoot as you proceed along the ridge with extensive views all around. Go right at a junction of paths and continue to the left of the covert. Go down the track past the end of Nut Wood where it soon becomes a fenced footpath. Shortly come to the Alderminster road, near Goldicote Business Park. Cross the road, then the main A422 (take care here) and go left along the wide grass verge of the A422, past the business park entrance.
In about 500yds (457m) go right and walk up Blue Lane towards Loxley, passing by Blue Lane Farm on the way back to the lay-by and your car.
