From Shustoke to Church End

Walk directions

Leave the car park going up to the reservoir embankment and go left to follow the fingerpost of the Circular Path, which encircles the larger of the two Shustoke reservoirs. At the east end of the reservoir, go through a gate and immediately left down steps, then go right along a track. Meeting a tarmac lane, go left over a footbridge, then along a path parallel to the lane, which is a short distance to the south of the smaller reservoir – this is to protect you from the possible danger of fly fishing lines. After passing behind the buildings of the Fly Fisherman’s Club, leave the reservoir complex over a stile and go right along a path in woodland and cross a footbridge.

Emerge from the trees via a gate and turn left. Follow the field edge to a further gate and continue along a field edge, the railway on your left, before curving round to meet the B4114 at the entrance to a fuel depot. Turn left along the road edge for 80yds (73m), then cross the road and go through a kissing gate into the pasture below St Cuthbert’s Church. Walk half right up the field and go through a second kissing gate to the right-hand side of the churchyard, and take the lane past the church to Shawbury Lane.
