"An engaging, family-friendly experience steeped in storytelling, history and natural beauty."
Overview
Within historic woodland along the River Nidd in Knaresborough is Mother Shipton’s Cave, birthplace of the famous prophetess. It is situated next to the Petrifying Well, England’s oldest visitor attraction. Discover the story of Mother Shipton and the waters which turn objects to stone. The park has several scenic picnic areas, an adventure playground and a gift shop, with cabinets of petrified celebrity curiosities. Dogs are welcome in all areas, apart from the playground and the gift shop (with the exception of guide and assistance dogs). For details of themed family events visit the website.

About the area
North Yorkshire, with its two National Parks and two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is England’s largest county and one of the most rural. This is prime walking country, from the heather-clad heights of the North York Moors to the limestone country that is so typical of the Yorkshire Dales – a place of contrasts and discoveries, of history and legend.
