The Punchbowl Inn, Askham
"Rural Lakeland pub serving hearty local food"
Overview
Once a farmhouse and orchard, this idyllic 18th-century village pub retains much of its original character with timber beams, open fire and stone floors. Local ales are dispensed in the bar, with robust and home-cooked food served in the comfortable restaurant. Typical choices include hunter’s chicken stuffed with smoked cheddar and wrapped in bacon, and local Herdwick lamb shank with champ mash, minted peas, buttered greens and gravy.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
