Inside you can hear the great bell Gabriel (also 600 years old), find out about the original clock, the Napoleonic War telegraph station (1808-14), and see the fine Victorian turret clock in action. From the top there are fantastic views across the city and of the Hertfordshire countryside.

About the area
As Hertfordshire is so close to London, many of its towns have become commuter havens. St Albans, less than 19 miles (30km) from the capital, has retained its distinctive character, along with many historic remains.
