Roman Theatre of Verulamium

Overview
The Roman Theatre of Verulamium is unique. Built in about 140 AD it is the only example of its kind in Britain, being a theatre with a stage rather than an amphitheatre. The theatre was first found in 1847, and was fully excavated by 1935. It is semicircular in shape with a stage area. The seating would have accommodated over 4000 spectators.
