Reculver Towers & Roman Fort
Overview
An imposing 12th-century landmark: twin towers and the walls of a Roman fort. The fort was built to defend against Saxon raids, although ironically, the site later became an Anglo-Saxon monastery before becoming the parish church for Reculver. The tall towers were built in a remodelling of the church in the 12th century. Much of the site has been lost to coastal erosion, the twin towers and much of the ruined Roman fort have survived.
