"Well placed and discreet hides to watch the wildlife"
Overview
One of Britain's most important wetland sites, where you can get really close to a variety of ducks, geese and swans from all over the world as well as two flocks of flamingos and otters. Thousands of wildfowl, including pink-footed geese, Whooper swans, winter here. Other features include a children's adventure playground, craft area, shop, canoe safari boat tours and an educational centre.

About the area
Lancashire was at the centre of the British cotton industry in the 19th century, which lead to the urbanization of great tracts of the area. The cotton boom came and went, but the industrial profile remains.
