A walk from Dorsington

Walk directions

From St Peter’s church in Dorsington, follow the road signposted to Pebworth and Long Marston. On reaching wrought iron gates at the entrance to the Moat House on the left, turn right and follow the lane (Heart of England Way). On the right is the Dorsington Arboretum. Pass a sign for Udde Well Pond, a conservation area, and continue on the single-track lane between hedgerows and farmland, with pleasant views over pastoral Warwickshire, close to where it meets Worcestershire. Pass double gates at the entrance to a house and keep ahead on the right of way, which becomes a rough track.

When the Heart of England Way turns right, continue ahead on the track, passing a solitary stone-built house called Fox Covert. Pass through gates, break cover from the trees and look for the chimneys of Bickmarsh Hall Farm in the distance. On drawing level with its farm buildings and silos, turn left to cross a field.

The sparkle of sunlight on a gentle river as it meanders through beautiful countryside; the reflections of sailing boats on a lake; relaxing with a pint in the garden of an old English pub in a picturesque village; brightly coloured narrow boats making their way through a flight of lock gates; the imposing silhouette of an historic castle. These are the scenes that make Warwickshire a delight.
