The Oxenham Arms Hotel and Restaurant South Zeal
"Historic Dartmoor pub serving traditional food and local ales"
Overview
Located just 5 minutes off the A30 to Cornwall and Devon, on the northern edge of Dartmoor. Past guests at this historic pub have included Charles Dickens, Sir Francis Drake and Admiral Lord Nelson. Incorporating a 5,000-year-old granite standing stone and a 12th-century monastery, this post-medieval manor house has such a rich history that the pub runs tours of the building. Whether simply for a pint of locally brewed Merry Monk or a meal in one of the six different dining areas, this ancient pub covers all bases. A typical dinner might include ham hock, pea and parsley terrine followed by venison with heritage carrots and beets. Time a visit for the beer festival during the second weekend of August.
