On to New Poltalloch
Exit the car park and turn left, follow the road to the first turn on the right. Turn here and continue along the road looking for a sign on the left for Ri Cruin Cairn. Cross the wall via a stile and follow the path to the monument if you want to.
Return to the road and turn left and continue to reach a fingerpost sign at a junction at some estate gates on the left. Turn left, over a cattle grid and go past the lodge cottage to proceed along a dilapidated estate road.
This becomes a rather muddy track at times, depending on the weather and the cattle. There are usually beasts on this road. They will generally move away as walkers approach, but be careful if there are calves that you do not inadvertently come between a calf and its mother.
Continue along this road towards a T-junction, then turn right and walk through a set of stone gateposts to reach the Church of Saint Columba, which is usually open. Have a look round and then return to the road and continue along it to a gate on the right.
Go through the gate and across an open field to have a good look at New Poltalloch House. The house is in a very dangerous state so make sure that you do not go too close and under no circumstances try to enter any of the buildings. When you have finished looking at the ruin, retrace your steps to the road. The estate road is in much better condition from this point on.
Turn right onto the road and continue to the estate gate beside East Lodge. Go through this and shortly after turn left onto the B8025. Continue for just over a mile on this quiet country lane all the way back to the car park.
