The Auckland ProjectQuality Assessed
"A local initiative which encourages visitors to this charming town."
Overview
The Auckland Project is a regeneration initiative based in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. It aims to revitalise the town through cultural and economic development centred around restoring historic sites and creating new attractions. Key elements include the refurbishment of Auckland Castle, a former palace of the Prince Bishops of Durham, the creation of a Spanish Gallery showcasing Spanish art, a Faith Museum, a Mining Art Gallery, and the development of gardens and other community spaces. Passes can be bought which grant admission to the Project's attractions.

About the area
County Durham reaches halfway across England, from the North Pennines in the west, to the sea in the east. Much of it is very sparsely inhabited, and is naturally beautiful; a mix of rolling hills, monumental valleys, lush farmland and unforgiving moors.
