The Peat Spade Inn
"Test Valley pub famous for its fishing connections."
Overview
Owned by the successful Upham Pub Company, The Peat Spade stands very close to the River Test. Nearby is Stockbridge, sometimes referred to as the country's fly-fishing capital. A gabled, red-brick Victorian building, its unusual windows overlook a peaceful village lane and thatched cottages. In the cosy fishing- and shooting-themed bar and dining room the short, daily changing menu lists dishes reliant on local and regional suppliers. Among them at lunchtime may be dry-aged beefburger, wild mushrooms, truffle mayonnaise, fries and mixed leaves; Punter ale-battered hake and chips; or handpicked Portland crab on toast. The dinner menu might offer pan-fried fillet of salmon, pink fir potatoes, peas, samphire, cucumber and wasabi butter sauce; and slow-cooked rump of lamb, belly croquette, dauphinoise potatoes, baby carrots and rosemary jus. Outside is a sheltered and enclosed terrace.
