"Charming pub with low beams and a river in the garden"
Overview
It’s said that the name of this 15th-century, timber-framed pub comes from an Old English phrase for a meeting of three rivers, but there’s only one here – The Test, world-famous as ‘the birthplace of modern fly fishing’. You might even spot a brown trout or two while sitting on the patio in the charming rear garden. There’s a log fire to warm the low-beamed bar, where you’ll find local ales Itchen Valley and Flowerpots. Menus feature modern European and traditional dishes – maybe seared fillets of sole; heritage carrot and tarragon gnocchi; or wild boar and apple sausages – and the restaurant has an AA Rosette. Suites provide excellent overnight accommodation.

Hampshire’s varied landscape of hills and heaths, downlands and forests, valleys and coast are without rival in southern England. Hike across the chalk downland of the north Hampshire ‘highlands’, meander along peaceful paths through unspoilt river valleys of the Test, Itchen, Avon and Meon, or explore the lonely salt marshes and the beautiful medieval forest and heathland of the New Forest.
