The Wildebeest

"Delightfully rustic looks and consistently excellent cooking."
Overview
A former country inn, The Wildebeest has been brought up to speed for the 21st century as an immensely likeable country restaurant, stylishly and uncluttered with bare beams, leather chairs and chunky oak-slab tables. Service is genuinely friendly, professional and attentive. Changing on a daily basis, menus offer bright, thoughtful modern British cooking built on a bedrock of regional materials, opening with smooth chicken liver parfait matched with pickled sultanas, pomegranate molasses, pear chutney, Serrano crisp and toasted brioche. Next up, a hearty plate of pan-roasted Gressingham duck breast with cavolo nero, pomme purée, braised turnip, smoked beetroot and coriander crumb.

About the area
The North Norfolk Coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and probably the finest of its kind in Europe. Here you’ll find a string of quaint villages and small towns – Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Cley next the Sea are 21st-century favourites, while Sheringham and Cromer are classic examples of a good old-fashioned seaside resort where grand Victorian hotels look out to sea
